Glee Superbowl Episode Spoilers

You've probably all heard that Glee will be doing the King of Pop's classic "Thriller", but did you know that they will be doing it as a mash-up with another song (to be determined)?
This episode is reported to be the most expensive episode in Glee's history, as well as in TV's history! The episode will cover songs from Black Eyed Peas, Lady Antebellum and Katy Perry.

The episode will be sports themed (it goes along with the Superbowl), focusing on the local football championship and Sue's cheerleading regionals.

"The Substitute" In-Depth Review by Amber

November 17, 2010

To Start Off The Episode We Have The Effervescent Sue Sylvester Greet One Will Shuester With A Proud Smirk Alerting Him That She Was Not Just “Sue Sylvester” Anymore….She Was Now “Principal Sylvester” Scary Huh? First Thing That Went Thru My Mind Was “Oh This Is Going To Be Interesting..” While Another Part Of Me Was Screaming At My TV. Then It Hit Me, Shes Going To Fire Mr. Shue. Considering Their Past And Their Endless Fight Against Each Other, I Figured That She Wouldn’t Do That To Him, Thinking Back To Their Conversation Back In “Journey To Regional’s” She Helped Him Get Another Year So She Could Constantly Be “Besting Him” So Part Of Me Was Rather Confused.  Not Really Sure How Long This “Principal Sue” Thing Is Going To Last, Hopefully Not Soon..I Miss Figgins Already >_<

Unfortunately A Viral “Monkey Flu” Has Gotten Its Reign On McKinely High Hitting Both Figgins And Now A Mr Will Shuester.  This Leads Them To The Choir Room As He Tries To Keep His Bodily Functions In Check Hoping To Just Let This Sickness Slide Past Him, That Is Until He Turns Around And Comes Face To Face With Mini Versions Of His Kids. Something Is Definitely Not Right. They Are So Utterly Adorable I Cant Even Stand It. The Casting Directors Did A Marvelous Job Of Finding An Exact, Almost Shockingly, Replica Of Each Character. My Favorite Would Probably Have To Be Mini Rachel. She’s So Alike To The Original Rachel Berry Its Hard Not To Smile At Her Persistence With Getting A Set List Up, While Conveniently Mentioning One Ms Bernadette Peters.

Sadly We Shift To A Rather Emotional And Gut Wrenching Scene With Mr Shue In Bed Sick With The Flu And A Convenient Terri Leaning Over His Bedside. Honestly This Scene Was Rather, Heartbreaking For Me. On Terri’s Side. Im Not A Shipper Of Will/Terri I Don’t Think I Ever Will. Sometimes I See A Friendship In There, But That’s All I See. She Comes To His Bedside With A Cool Rag Knowing Automatically How To Take Care Of Him. They Had Been Together For 16 Years. Honestly I Think Will Was Appreciative Of Her Being There, But Felt Uncomfortable Considering How Badly They Ended Things. They Were Now A Divorced Couple. “That’s Because You Like Me Best When Im Weak” This Line Really Hit Home For Me. I Honestly Think That’s What Went Wrong In Their Relationship. Well That And The Lying, Fake Pregnancy, And The Want Of Him To Switch His Life Around And Become An Accountant. This Was The Cherry On Top Of All That Went Wrong In Their Marriage. And Suddenly She Agrees With Him. I Had No Idea She Would Admit To That. Terri Is A Complex Character. But In The End She Just Wants Everything To Go Her Way, And Have Everything Under Her Own Fantasy Of What She Thinks Is Normal. Trying To Control Your Significant Other Isnt The Best Way To Keep Them Satisfied. Which Is Why She Decided To Lie And Keep It To Herself, Unaware That She Would Get Caught.  Altho When She Gets Up When He Tells Her To Get Out, She Walks Over To The TV And Throws A Familiar DVD Of “Singing In The Rain” At Him.  At That Point, A Part Of Me Felt Bad For Hating Terri For So Long. She Did Know Him Well Enough To Know What He Liked To Watch When He Was Sick. Which Im Sure Will Felt A Tinge Of Guilt As She Walked Out Without Another Word.

First Of All I Adore Kurt And Mercedes Relationship. They Both Have A Great Chemistry In Character And Off.  Second Of All This Scene In The Cafeteria  Made Me Feel Kind Of Bad For Mercedes. Kurt Kind Of Blowing Her Off To Hang Out With Blaine. Which I Can Understand. He’s Finally Found Someone To Relate To What He’s Going Thru And Not Have To Worry About Judgment.  I Know That Mercedes Won’t Ever Judge Him, But There Are Certain Things That You Have To Express To Another Person Other Than Your Best Friend.  I Would Honestly Feel Bad If My Friend Decided To Hang Out With Another Friend And Completely Forget About Me. But With Kurt’s Emotional Storyline He’s Had Its Nice To See Him Happy. J

Mercedes And Her Tots……That’s All ;) That Storyline Through This Episode Was Just Hilarious! I Loved All Her Facial Expressions ;) “I Want MAH Tots!” Lol Priceless Mercedes Diva Outshining Herself Again ;)

Holly Holiday. That One Name Can Just Make Me Squeal With Delight. I Love How They Had Her On The Show And Gave Her A Bit Of A Background. Kurt Comes In And Asks Her To Take Over Glee Club In Mr. Shue’s Absence Which She Takes Willingly.

Rachel Berry And Her Ability To Turn A Comical Moment Into A Classic Rachel Berry Response “At Least I Didn’t Fall And Break My Talent” LOVED That Line. Not Really Surprised At The Fact That Puck Was The One Buttering The Floors As A Stupid Prank…Looks Like The Old Puck Is Back. Now Some People Were Getting A Little Agitated At The Fact That Finn Didn’t Come To Rachel’s Rescue When She Fell. Honestly I Didn’t Expect Him To Jump At Her Like A Helpless Bird. Rachel Berry Doesn’t Need That Kind Of Protection. She’s Strong Enough To Manage For Herself, Which I’m Sure Finn Realized Seeing Her Get Back Up On Her Feet Without Hesitation.

“Forget You” Was Just An Amazing Performance. Gwyneth Paltrow Was Phenomenal. I Had No Idea That She Had A Voice On Her. This Song Is Now Forever Stuck In My Head, Along With Everyone Else’s. The Only Thing That Was Left To Digest Was Rachel’s Hair Flipping And Irritated Facial Expressions. None Of This Came As A Surprise To Me. Rachel Has Always Been The Voice Of Reason Out Of The Whole Group And She Didn’t Like The Fact That They Were Getting Off Track And Just Goofing Off Only Because Mr Shue Wasn’t There To Harden Down On The Fact Sectionals Was Rearing Its Ugly Head Soon. I Think It Was A Nice Relief For All Of Them To Just Take A Break And Relax, While Another Part Of Me Was A Little Scared That They Were Getting So Close To Sectionals And They Haven’t Set Up A “Set List” Yet.

“Make Em Laugh” Probably One Of My Favorite Songs From This Episode (Other Than “Forget You” Mind You) Because It Honestly Made Me Bust Out Laughing! The Song Says It All, And I Couldn’t Imagine Anyone Else Singing This Song Other Than Matthew Morrison. He’s A Broadway Veteran, So I Knew That He’d Be Able To Pull This Song Off With Flying Colors.  Beautifully Done. Including All The Hilarious Stunts That Matt And Harry Did During This Song. It Was Mindblowing! Absolutely Loved It!

“You Suck…Has Anyone Ever Told You That?” When I Heard That Holly Would Be Spouting Off Lies About Rachel Berry It Made Me Not Only A Little Agitated But Also Very Interested On How Rachel Would Take That Bit Of News From Their Substitute.  Rachel Didn’t Really React Much To It. In My Opinion I Think She Agreed With It. She’s Always So Uptight And Not Really Open To Just Having Fun. Rachel Opens Up To Holly Letting Her Know How Badly She Wants To Do An “Fun Song With A Good Dance Beat” Also Alarming Her That She Doesn’t Have Anyone To Perform It With. Without Hesitation Holly Accepts The Offer Which Brings Yet Another Adorable Smile To Her Face. Looks Like We Have Another Showstopper ;)
Mercedes Has A Boyfriend Now. Anthony Risshad. Not Sure How To Spell His Last Name, Forgive Me. I Think I See Some Romance For Her In The Future ;) Can’t Wait To See Ryan Murphy Elaborate On This!

“Nowadays/Hot Honey Rag” I LOVED LOVED LOVED This Performance. “Chicago” Is One Of My Favorite Musicals Ever! And I’ve Been Dying To See Them Perform A Number Like This. I Would Have Rather Seen Them Do “Cell Block Tango” But This One I’m Ok With. Rachel & Holly Did Amazing! And Lea Thinks She Can’t Dance ;) Such Good Musical Chemistry Between Both Of Them! I Love It!

The Kurt/Blaine/Mercedes Little “Date” Was Rather Awkward. More So On Mercedes Point Of View. I Really Admire Blaine’s Character Now. Not That I Didn’t Before But I Really Liked How He Tried To Include Mercedes In The Conversation And Express Some Of Her Interest’s. The Whole “Gay Gay Gay…Purse” Line Didn’t Really Bother Me. I Thought It Was Rather Funny. Chris Colfer Is A Comedic Actor As Well As A Dramatic Actor. He’s Very “Versatile” That Way ;)

The Scenes With Will And Holly Really Made Me Think Of How Hard It Is To Be A Teacher. On One End You Have To Keep The Kids Interested And Awake, On The Other End You Have To Make Sure That They’re Learning From What Your Giving Them And They’re Benefitting From It. Both Sides Have A Valid Argument, BUT I Have To Agree With Will On This One. He May Not Be The “Funnest” Teacher In The World But He Shows Them That He Genuinely Cares For Every Single One Of His Students. Which Is Also Expressed From His Kids Later On In The Show When Sue Brings Them In To Decide Who’s Better Fitted For The Role Of “Glee Club Director” In Witch Will Wins With A Heavy Dose Of Compliments From His Students. I Sometimes Wish I Had A Teacher Like Will AND Like Holly. It’s a Nice Balance Sometimes For A Kid To Be Having Fun And Also Working Hard. Life Isn’t All Sunshine And Ponies. You Have To Work At It.  You Also Get To See A Vulnerable Side To Holly’s Character. They Start Her From The Beginning Of Her Life At McKinley Showing Us How Hard It Was For Her To Relate To Her Students Without Being Attacked By Some Rather Frightening Students.  She’s Never Had A Reason To Really Connect To Her Students The Way Will Does And She Blames Herself For How Her Kids Perceive Her.

Ahhh The Now Forever Infamous Will/Terri Scene That Ends The Episode With A Big Lingering Question. “You’ll Regret This Will” In His Bedroom A Few Scenes Back They Ended Up Making Love On Hallowed Grounds, Which Terri Takes Light Of When She Sees Will And Holly Having A Little Chat In His Living Room. Terri Decides To Take Anger Of The Fact That He’s With Another Woman So Soon After Their Rendezvous Only What Seems Like A Day Ago. He Tells Holly To Stay And Makes Terri Leave. The Pivital Scene Where Terri Gives Him An Ultimatum. Take Your Pick Now, Or Else Im Not Coming Back….He Basically Tells Her To Leave….And To Step Quietly Out Of His Life. I Don’t Think Were Done With The Reign Of One Mrs Terri Shuester.  As Much As I Hate Terri And Her Constant Drag On Everything Will Has To Offer, Im Curious How Far They Are Going To Push Her Character Back In The Show. It Just Gives Me Chills >_<

The Last Portion Ill Be Elaborating On Is The Last Musical Number “Singing In The Rain/Umbrella” GOSH How I Loved This Scene!  The Water, Umbrellas, And The Long Black Leather Raincoats! It Was Just Amazing!  As Much As I Didn’t Really Care For The Mash-Up Of Both The Songs, I Honestly Would Have Prefered To Have Them Sung Seperately, But I Actually Found The Song Rather Catchy ;)

Love Always,
Amber A Faithful Gleek ;)
